As India mandates CBG blending across its gas networks, that depth of experience is becoming its most valuable asset.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Delhi [India], April 30:<\/strong> India generates over\u00a0<strong>62-72\u00a0million tonnes of municipal solid waste every year<\/strong>. Most of it rots in open dumps. A company from Navi Mumbai has spent\u00a0<strong>18\u00a0years<\/strong>\u00a0turning that problem into an energy solution,\u00a0and is only now beginning to get the attention it deserves.<\/p>\n<p>Organic Recycling Systems Limited\u00a0started as a waste management firm. Today, it\u00a0has transitioned into\u00a0an\u00a0integrated\u00a0CleanTech\u00a0and decarbonisation platform, converting\u00a0agricultural waste, energy crops,\u00a0and\u00a0organic fraction of\u00a0municipal waste into\u00a0compressed biogas (CBG)\u00a0and <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">value-added<strong>\u00a0products<\/strong><\/span>. The shift is not just in branding. In 2013, the company commissioned\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>first\u00a0anaerobic digestion-based integrated MSW valorisation facility in Solapur<\/strong>, Maharashtra,\u00a0at a time when most of the sector was still figuring out what was possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarang Bhand, the Promoter and Managing Director\u00a0<\/strong>who has led the company since its inception,\u00a0frames the opportunity in stark terms.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>Every tonne of municipal waste that goes into a landfill is a tonne of clean energy that India has to import instead. That is the equation we are trying to change.<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u2014 Sarang\u00a0<\/em><em>Bhand<\/em><em>, Promoter &amp; MD, ORSL<\/em><\/p>\n<p>MSW is among the most complex feedstocks in the bioenergy value chain\u00a0\u2013\u00a0heterogeneous, seasonally variable, and unforgiving of process errors.
